Days 5 & 6

I feel like the days are escaping me so I decided to start doing multiple days into one post….

Day 5: Puente la Reina to Estella (21.8 km/13.5 miles)

This was a lovely hike, filled with classic Camino things: a nice town about 3 miles in where we got breakfast (okay I’ll be honest I got a snickers haha!), green landscapes and random roosters. We had a lovely albergue, with a beautiful terrace. See pictures below!

Day 6: Estella to Los Arcos (21.6 km/ 13.4 miles) 

This would be the most stressful day yet but it began just lovely because it began with WINE. At about 9am we arrived at the wine fountain at The Irache Monastery. Truly incredible. The rest of the day we were spoiled with ample sun and scenary. It was easily a top 3 most beautiful day. I even drank BEER, Weiss Beer to be specific, which I never drink. It wasn’t horrible. Wasn’t great either though! My new hiking friend, Sebastian, was convinced I would love it– and I was sorry to disappoint but my taste buds haven’t changed that much.

The stress I mentioned before came later that evening when I went to dinner. I realized I lost my debit card and had about €20 less on me. You see, in the morning we awoke to police officers saying they were trying to find a pilgrim who was staying at our albergue so I immediately assumed it was stolen, but as of now I really do think I just lost it. Either way– there I was HANGRY when I realized I lost my card. Before dinner came, I ran, literally ran, back to the albergue to try to find it. I was crying hysterically and worrying about what else might have been stolen. On the Camino you really need cash, rarely do people accept credit cards. I felt like I was in shock because I am normally so careful with my stuff.

This is where my new friends became family. I had so many people around me helping me. 2 girls just sat with me to keep me company while I made countless phone calls. Michel from Germany even brought me food ( I ran out before I could even eat my dinner.)

It was a stressful evening but I can honestly say it was a learning lesson about how everything works out…I was able to use PayPal to sent money to another pilgrim who got me cash and then had a new card sent to Burgos.

I am still waiting to get my card but again, everything will work out!
