The hike to Finisterre started early, I was able to get started at 7am, which meant I got to see the sunrise 😍
The whole day felt surreal. As I walked, the Camino sign posts kept going down and down. Obviously that’s how it works- when you walk, the distance goes down. But I couldn’t believe I would see the 0km marker today.
Again, I didn’t have much hunger so I managed to walk over the half the day without a break. It wasn’t until 21km that I stopped. I still had about 11km to go but those 11km would fly by. As soon as I saw Finisterre popping out around the corner I almost started running. Don’t worry I didn’t run though, my damn pack is too heavy haha!
The entire first half of the day was full of eucalyptus forests and then the second half was full of ocean views, what a great welcome into the “end of the world.”
I felt less alone today, didn’t feel so consumed by the missing of my friends. Every day is getting a bit easier. Especially being able to talk with them, it really helps to have the contact with them. Helps remind me they are still alive, haha!
I wish I took a video of myself arriving at Finisterre. On lookers probably thought I was drunk. I flung my pack off and immediately started twirling around on the beach! Then I took off my shoes and walked into the ocean. It felt like some kind of heaven walking on sand, BAREFOOT!
I walked about 2km on the beach and then arrived in the city. The municipal albergue was closed, which I’ve never seen before. There were a bunch of other albergue owners handing out flyers trying to get you to go to their albergue. One guy wouldn’t leave me alone, so I said I needed to go meet my friends and just walked away as he KEPT talking, ha!
I found a beautiful albergue along the water and took a nice rest before heading up to the famous lighthouse, where the 0km marker is.
The walk up to the lighthouse was beautiful, and it felt incredible to not have my pack on. Felt like I was flying haha!
The weather turned south quickly, was so cold and windy I only stayed up there for about 30 minutes. Didn’t get to catch the sunset. I am still so shocked at how late the sun sets here (9:35pm.) at home it’s about 6pm or so.
I wasn’t very hungry so I got some groceries at the store and ate a small meal at the albergue before calling it a night. Watched an episode of How I Met Your Mother again, haha.
The next day I will head up to As Lires, halfway to Muxia.
Cheers!

Walking down to the edge of the “end of the world”

The coast here looks so much like Oregon! Still can’t believe this is the same ocean I grew up swimming in, across the world of course haha!
